BCEN Executive Director Janie Schumaker to Head American Board of Nursing Specialties
OAK BROOK, IL (June 25, 2019) – On July 1, Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) Executive Director Janie Schumaker, MBA, BSN, RN, CEN, CENP, CPHQ, FABC, will be installed as American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS) board of directors president for a two-year term. With a focus on improving patient outcomes and consumer protection by promoting specialty nursing certification, ABNS represents through its member organizations nearly 750,000 board certified registered nurses practicing in a variety of settings worldwide. Schumaker has spent the majority of her 27-year healthcare career in emergency nursing, both at the bedside and in senior management roles.
“It is an honor and a privilege to join ABNS member organizations and board certified nurses in every specialty as we promote excellence in nursing certification,” said Schumaker.
As ABNS’ chief elected and principal executive officer, Schumaker will oversee and direct ABNS operations and membership-based initiatives including ongoing collaborative research as well as supporting continuing competence as a means for ensuring patient safety, promoting accreditation to recognize quality specialty nursing certification programs, and serving as the authoritative resource and voice for specialty nursing certification.
