BOARD  OF CERTIFICATION FOR EMERGENCY NURSING LAUNCHES NEW CERTIFICATION

Naperville, IL (February 18, 2016) – The Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN®) has launched a new certification, Trauma Certified Registered Nurse (TCRN).

TCRN is the first national certification program for trauma nurses, who are integrally involved in patient management, communication and education. Trauma nursing spans the continuum of care, from injury prevention through rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

Registration for the certification opened February 1 and eligible candidates can begin sitting for the exam today, February 18. The TCRN certification has been in development since March 2015.

BCEN conducted research to determine the necessity and feasibility of offering a trauma nursing certification, and the support garnered since its launch has been extensive. The TCRN certification has been eagerly anticipated and very well received.

“Quality trauma nursing care is instrumental for achieving optimal health outcomes,” Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) President Julie Nash, MSN, RN said. “STN congratulates BCEN for its visionary leadership in the design and implementation of a certification program that recognizes the specialized knowledge and skills necessary for trauma nursing professionals to deliver exceptional care across the continuum.”

The Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) is the premier global nursing organization across the trauma continuum. In preparation for the BCEN trauma certification examination, STN’s Education Committee developed specific coursework, resources and materials.

BCEN Chairperson Mary Whelan, MSN, RN, CEN, is grateful for the support of trauma nurse groups such as STN and believes this certification is important not only to BCEN as an organization, but for its promotion of knowledge and skills that will benefit the patient at point of care.

“The implementation of this certification is consistent with our commitment to excellence – it feels like a natural step forward in our relationship with the nursing community, a true endorsement of professionalism,” Whelan said.
