Traci Jordan, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer at Ochsner LSU Health – Monroe Medical Center, shared:

“We are incredibly proud of Jamin and his dedication to excellence in all aspects of emergency nursing. He exhibits an outstanding commitment to our patients, team members and communities through his continuous quest for knowledge and skills. His attainment of all five certifications available for emergency nursing sets him apart as a leader and expert in his field and an example for other nurses.

Jamin’s passion for trauma nursing is evident through his leadership of Ochsner LSU Health Monroe’s trauma and stroke programs. His hard work led Monroe Medical Center to become Northeast Louisiana’s first Level III Trauma Center, ensuring those in need of emergency services can receive lifesaving care closer to home. Additionally, he provides statewide education that improves emergency response across and beyond the state of Louisiana.”

Here’s what Jamin’s nominator, Deborah Spann with the Louisiana Emergency Response Network, had to say:

“It is an honor to shine a spotlight on this nurse. JR is the example of what a truly dedicated registered nurse should look like. He has multiple certifications, is a sought after speaker, and leads the way as a trauma program manager at a busy urban facility.

He does not just talk about certification in his professional field, he lives it every day. The way he interacts with other nurses, communicates with industry leaders, portrays his nursing professionalism to the community, and connects with patients is directed and guided by the education gained in preparing and maintaining the varied certifications.

As his facility’s trauma program director, he facilitated a successful progression to a respected state-designated and American College of Surgeons-verified trauma center … and teaches and facilitates many different types of educational offerings aimed at nurses and paramedics … and he encourages excellence and experience along with certification pursuit. His efforts have been essential in applying for an implementing programs funded at a regional level … and with his input and guidance, hundreds of nurses have been trained in response to trauma and pediatric emergencies.

Regionally, he is a go-to for hemorrhage control courses, has taught within the hospital and in a wide array of locations from schools of nursing to Sunday schools, works closely with public health and law enforcement to ensure training opportunities in those areas, and he teaches in Sudden Impact courses designed to decrease the number of teens injured in distracted driving incidents. He recently led an initiative to bring pre-hospital Trauma Life Support to the region whereby over 60 medics will be trained, 2 new training centers will be established, and a minimum of 10 instructors will be prepared so that the efforts are sustained into the future.

As this BCEN-certified registered nurse continues his pursuit of excellence, the outcomes for patient care in the state of Louisiana are directly impacted. He uses his skills and knowledge to reach a maximum number of individuals. The most amazing byproduct of his efforts may be reflected in how many of those students, after their encounters with him, are empowered to not only take the certification exams, but to also strike out as leaders. From this dedicated nurse, we can trace a lineage of nurses reaching higher and attaining an admirable level of success.”
