Heart and Soul, and a Whole Lot of Class

What makes an organization successful? For me, the answer is easy: It’s the people.

The Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN) has celebrated much success over our 44 years, including our (now) six high-quality, well-respected specialty nursing certifications and the lifelong learning components that go along with them. None of this would be possible without the ability to attract and retain top talent across our board of directors, subject matter expert volunteers, and staff.

Hilde Marnul, BCEN’s director of marketing and communications for the past seven years, is a stellar example of top talent. Having served BCEN for more than 11 years, Hilde’s passion, work ethic, and dedication to BCEN and the nurses we serve has been second to none—and these qualities have contributed mightily to the organization’s success.

Hilde was responsible for transforming the face of BCEN with a fresh rebrand in 2018 that included new logos, a more vibrant color palette, and an overhaul of our communication efforts to focus on the value of all nurses, particularly specialty certified RNs and the difference they make. As part of the rebranding efforts, Hilde led a complete overhaul of the BCEN website, listening carefully to your feedback and requests, and continuously making improvements since the new website launched.

Hilde also grew our three fledgling social media channels to have the robust following and rich content you see today. And each time BCEN launched a new offering, including BCEN Learn, Test Assurance and the Certified Burn Registered Nurse (CBRN) certification, Hilde was the powerhouse behind the communication efforts that keep you informed.

Over the past few years, Hilde has been blessed with three beautiful grandchildren. She highly values her family and being involved in their lives. And while she gives her all to both work and family without missing a beat, she is looking forward to focusing on her home life given her expanding family tree. So, it is bittersweet for me to share that Hilde is retiring at the end of this June.

Many of you know Hilde well, and I welcome you to drop her a note, give her a call or share a comment on our social channels to help me thank her for her years of service and the huge impact she has made at BCEN and throughout the BCEN community.

Hilde is all heart and soul with a whole lot of class. She’s impossible to replace and will be deeply missed by all.

Here are some of the many tributes to Hilde that have been pouring in:
