Work Begins on New Burn Specialty Certification

In 2020, the American Burn Association (ABA) recognized burn nursing as a nursing specialty. BCEN® and the ABA have begun the preliminary steps toward creating the new burn certification. This certification will be applicable to nurses working across the continuum of burn care.
Subject matter experts have been selected for a burn nursing role delineation study (RDS) which will begin in early 2022.
The ABA has also continued drafting a core curriculum titled Burn Nursing: From Injury Prevention to Rehabilitation, which will be one of the primary resources for the creation of exam content.
While still in the early stages of development, BCEN looks forward to introducing the world’s first burn nursing-specific national specialty certification in 2023!
