In her September 2026 LinkedIn article, “The Nursing Excellence Triad: Investing in Yourself for a Stronger Future,” BCEN CEO Janie Schumaker explores three key elements that create a strong foundation for long-term nursing success: education, specialty certification, and lifelong learning.
Janie had this to say:
I often think of professional development through the lens of a three-legged stool. A three-legged stool has a unique advantage: even on uneven ground, it remains stable because each leg helps the stool stay upright. If one leg becomes weakened or removed, the stool loses strength and balance.
In nursing, I see a similar “Nursing Excellence Triad” that helps create a strong foundation for long-term career success:
- A nursing degree, ideally a BSN
- Specialty certification
- Continuing education and lifelong learning
Together, these three elements provide the stability, credibility, and resilience nurses need to thrive in an ever-changing healthcare environment.
