Spark us with your success story!

We all need to inspire each other, celebrate with each other, learn from each other, and spark inspiration in each other to be our best.
So, tell us your certified nursing story. We want to know: Why does BCEN certification matter?
We are looking for stories about your clinical excellence, initial certification and renewal, leadership or impact on your patients, yourself, your team, your community.
Every story will be featured on this page … and we just might feature your story on the BCEN Success Stories page, BCEN’s social media channels or with our e-newsletter community of over 100,000 certified nurses and certification champions.
Will you be the spark that ignites a new passion for certification in your peers?

Emergency nursing is my passion. I enjoy the challenge of not knowing what will happen next, needing to be prepared to assess the situation, plan quickly, and act all while maintaining a calm appearance and control. Learning something new each day is essential to me and teaching others to care for their health conditions during brief ED interactions is challenging. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I love both trauma and emergency nursing. Being certified validates the high standards needed to be the best when it really matters.

My mother is a nurse and I always admired her compassion for her patients. This is something I craved to do because of her. In nursing school, I fell in love with the ED when I worked as a patient care tech. Now, 15 years out of school my passion is still nursing, the ED, and a new love: education. As a newer ED Educator, it has been rewarding to see staff growth and also how I can be a nurse advocate in a different arena. I am grateful for my mother’s compassion as it helped me see the pure joy of nursing!

To make a difference. My entire career has been dedicated to making a difference in people's lives. It's that moment when you know you made a difference, that matters most.

I fell in love with Emergency Medical and Trauma Care when I began as a firefighter in the city of Atlanta. It’s a great feeling to be there for others when they need it the most!

My Why is that I get the honor and privilege to be the patient’s point of access to life-saving critical care and the higher level of resources they need for their condition. It is humbling each and every time I go on a call, from the moment of the helicopter startup to unloading back at base.

I want to provide the best possible medical care to service members and their families. That’s why I became an ER nurse and took my CEN.

Certification gives you the knowledge and confidence to handle many situations. It is not about adding letters to your name, rather, it is about adding a higher level of care to each patient encounter.

Michael Dexter , CEN, CFRN, CPEN, TCRN

I felt that by obtaining my CEN, I would be able to give back to my place of employment, society at large and my patients a greater body of knowledge. This is supported by being able to make the best professional care decisions on sound scientific knowledge. The best Emergency Nursing care is what your certification is all about.

My Why is that I wanted to boost my confidence and knowledge level in Emergency Nursing and certification was a natural step to achieving this. Over the past few years, I realized I was ready for one more challenge and just became a TCRN.

Helping folks feel a sense of relief in the midst of an emergency, understand what is happening with their body, and providing the humanistic touch that causes patients and their families to feel cared for. That’s My Why... That, and the fast-paced, quick-thinking teamwork that is required to respond to life-threatening illness and injury.
