Emergency Nursing Certification Board Names New Executive Director and Announces Promotions

EMERGENCY NURSING CERTIFICATION BOARD NAMES NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

AND ANNOUNCES PROMOTIONS

 

Oak Brook, IL (February 22, 2018) – The Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN), the benchmark for nursing certifications across the emergency spectrum, has appointed Janie Schumaker, MBA, BSN, RN, CEN, CPHQ, CENP, FABC to the position of executive director. Schumaker has served as interim executive director since July 2017 and also served on BCEN’s board of directors from 2013 to 2017.

“Janie Schumaker is a change agent and a highly effective leader,” said BCEN Board of Directors Chairperson Lorie Ledford, MSN, RN, CEN, CPEN, TCRN, CCRN. “Janie is guiding BCEN as we advance the value of emergency nursing certification, improve our candidates’ certification and recertification experiences, and foster empowered emergency, flight and ground transport, and trauma nurses through our portfolio of specialty nursing certifications.” BCEN recently introduced digital badging, recertification through attestation, and announced the results of a large-scale value of certification study.

Schumaker is an accomplished nurse executive with over 25 years of experience. Immediately prior to joining BCEN, she was Vice President, Business Expansion for Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph, MO where she led new market opportunities. From 2015 to 2016, she was Chief Nursing Officer for T-System Inc., in Dallas where she created and launched new revenue streams, revived and developed key business relationships, and transformed the client experience, increasing KLAS scores from 5th position to 2nd position in 10 months. From 2012 to 2015, Schumaker was Associate Administrator for Emergent/Urgent Services at Mosaic Life Care, where she achieved a successful turnaround of emergency services, improving and sustaining patient experience from the 4th to the 95th percentile. Schumaker managed T-System’s Center for Performance Excellence from 2009 to 2012.

Prior to that, Schumaker was Emergency Services Director at Providence Medical Center and an emergency department staff nurse at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, KS. She also held multiple positions at Truman Medical Centers in Kansas City, KS from 1996 to 2005, including staff/charge nurse, nurse educator, emergency services manager, and Corporate Director, Quality Resources. Schumaker earned her MBA from University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, KS and her BSN from University of Missouri-Kansas City. She is a lifelong resident of Kansas City, KS.

 

BCEN Also Announces Two Management Promotions   

Hilde Marnul was named Director of Marketing and Communications after managing BCEN’s marketing and events since 2013. In this new role, Marnul is responsible for the strategic direction and management of BCEN’s marketing and communications initiatives to increase brand awareness and promote certification growth. With over 23 years of diverse marketing, sponsorship management and business development experience, Marnul launched BCEN’s successful superhero marketing campaign and has amplified BCEN’s presence and leadership at over a dozen national industry conferences. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Loyola University in Chicago and lives in Elk Grove Village, IL.

Naomi Savino was promoted to Business Operations Manager after serving as BCEN’s Business Operations Specialist from 2015 through 2017. In her new role, she manages operational support staff, develops vendor relationships and negotiates vendor contracts. When BCEN streamlined its recertification options in 2017, Savino spearheaded the operational functions supporting continuing education (CE) by attestation. Savino resides in South Elgin, IL.
