BCEN LAUNCHES LIVE REMOTE PROCTORING FOR ALL CERTIFICATION EXAMS
All BCEN In-Person and Remote Testing Now Offered Through PSI Services
OAK BROOK, IL (February 1, 2021) – The Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (BCEN), the benchmark for board certification across the emergency nursing spectrum, is pleased to announce it will offer live remote proctoring (LRP) for all five BCEN specialty certification exams for nurses seeking to validate their mastery of adult/mixed emergency, pediatric emergency, critical care ground transport, flight and trauma care.
BCEN also announced that PSI Services LLC (PSI) will provide both live remote proctoring and in-person testing services for all BCEN exams, and BCEN’s long-standing partnership with PSI on test development will continue.
“Our number one focus with offering live remote proctoring is ensuring our candidates and certificants have an excellent experience when sitting for any of BCEN’s rigorous and respected exams, said BCEN CEO Janie Schumaker,” MBA, BSN, RN, CEN, CENP, CPHQ, FABC. “BCEN is pleased to offer emergency, trauma and transport nurses this flexibility, accessibility and convenience.”
Live remote proctoring gives nurses seeking initial BCEN certification or recertification by exam the option to schedule themselves to sit for their exam at their home, office or other quiet, private location virtually anywhere in the world at any date and time. With LRP, specially trained professional proctors help examinees check in and access their exam and then monitor examinees throughout the test period with the aid of non-invasive technology.
Effective today, February 1, nurses may apply to take an exam via remote proctoring or in-person with test date availability as soon as February 8. Full details, including important information nurses considering LRP should read in its entirety, may be found here and in the FAQ section of the Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) credential page at https://bcen.org/cen/faqs/ as well as the respective FAQ sections of the CFRN, CPEN, CTRN and TCRN pages.
“We encourage every applicant to fully review the technical requirements and FAQs to confirm LRP is the right testing mode for their needs and not hesitate to call on our team for support—we, and PSI, are here for you,” said BCEN Director of Strategy & Operations Brigid Flood, who has spearheaded the LRP implementation. “We also would like the entire BCEN community to know that BCEN has voluntarily invested in additional security measures to further ensure the integrity of our high-stakes exams.”
“BCEN is excited to be among the early adopters of LRP in our industry,” added Schumaker, who also serves as president of the American Board of Nursing Specialties (ABNS). “Our LRP team is grateful for the unanimous and unequivocal support of our board members who know how much this option will mean to nurses across the emergency spectrum, including those serving rural communities who no longer have to travel long distances to testing centers.”
